چکیده

Body condition score has been proposed as an additional trait in New Zealand’s national breeding objective. To be considered for inclusion, genetic parameters and an economic value are required. We propose genetic evaluation of body condition score using a random regression model that includes 2 order orthogonal Legendre polynomials fitted to the genetic variance and a link function to account for heterogeneity of error variance over time. Multivariate analyses have shown that in New Zealand, body condition score is not genetically correlated with first lactation milksolids yield traits (when projected to a single common lactation length of 270 days). Moderate genetic correlations with fertility, survival and live weight were estimated. The economic value for body condition score is likely to include feed demands required to replenish lost body condition in a typical New Zealand farm. The relationship between body condition score and fertility will be accounted for in the breeding value for fertility.

Effect of Forage Feeding Level on Body Weight, Body Condition Score, Milk Production, and Milk Urea Nitrogen of Holstein Cows on an Organic Diet

In the past decade, a global demand for products from organic agriculture has increased rapidly. Milk quality is of major interest to all parties. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare cow performance and product quality on conventional and organic diets. 72 Holstein dairy cows were allotted to one of four diets: a conventional diet (CON40), an organic diet with a low amount of ...

Association of milk yield and body condition score indices with the commencement of luteal activity after parturition in high producing dairy cows

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relation between different indices of milk yield andbody condition score (BCS) with the commencement of the luteal activity (C-LA) during the postpartumperiod in high producing dairy cows. Seventy-one multiparous healthy (free of detectable reproductivedisorders) Holstein dairy cows (mean peak milk yield = 56.7 ± 7.4 kg) were used in the prese...

Factors Affecting Body Condition Score and Its Relationship with Productiveand Reproductive Performances of Holstein Cows

The objective of the present study was to determine factors affecting body condition score (BCS) and its association with productive and reproductive performances in Holstein cows. Mixed model analysis was performed on monthly records of BCS from April 2006 to July 2012 comprising 34666 records from 3134 dairy cows in a large commercial dairy herd under arid climatic conditions of Isfahan in Ir...

Influence of Body Condition Score on Yield and Composition of Milk in Crossbred Dairy Cows

The study was carried out for a period of 150 days on 120 Holstein Friesian crossbred dairy cows between mid to late lactation to quantify the influence of body condition score (BCS) on yield and composition of milk. Total 12 dairy farms having same housing systems and holding at least 20 crossbred dairy cows per farm between mid to late lactation were selected for this study purposes. BCS of i...

Animal Factors Condition Milk Performance and Quality of Grazing Dairy Cows

The base of this review is to consider the relevant role that animal factors (potential milk yield, body weight, body condition score, state of lactation, parity and fertility) play on milk performance (considering the energy balance and the rumen function across the full lactation curve of animals) and milk quality (milk protein content, milk fat content, milk lactose content, vitamins, minera...
